FLL Middle School

One of our school's biggest and most successful clubs is our robotics team, Sisters 1st. Over the past few years we have loved learning STEM and making memories through the FIRST® robotics program. There are three levels of competition within the program. Our highschool team, Sisters 1st, is part of the highest level, FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC). With lots of success and new members, we are now making all of the STEM fun accessible to our middle schoolers as well! This new team will be a part of the first level of competition, FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL).
FLL is for ages 4-16 and focuses on instilling a passion for engineering through inclusive hands-on learning. Throughout the season, FLL teams will learn to problem solve by engaging in research and building and programming a LEGO® robot that is able to perform the tasks of each year's particular game challenge. We hope the team will have the opportunity to travel with their robot to compete in regional competitions to show off their invention and hard work. Within FLL are three subcategories: FLL Explore (Pre-K - kindergarten), FLL Discover (1st - 4th graders) and FLL Challenge (4th - 8th graders). We will be participating in the highest level, FLL Challenge.
So what exactly does FLL Challenge entail? For about 1-3 hours a week, we will get the opportunity to brainstorm, build, and test our robot using LEGOs we’ve been generously donated. The aim of FLL Challenge is to complete as many missions as possible in a set amount of time, and it will be up to your daughters to decide how we go about that efficiently! If your daughter has expressed any interest in joining Sisters 1st in highschool, this is a great introduction to that. Little Sisters 1st, our middle school team, will be an empowering experience for students to experiment with their peers and work towards a common goal.
